A woman from Hayle has received an eight week curfew after admitting housing benefit and council tax benefit fraud totalling £7,161.06.
Cynthia Stevens, 63, of Penmare Close, Hayle pleaded guilty at Truro Magistrates Court on Friday to two counts of benefit fraud after failing to promptly report to Cornwall Council that she was in receipt of her late husband’s occupational pension.
Mrs Stevens was sentenced to an eight week curfew from 12pm to 9pm on Friday through to Tuesday.
Mrs Stevens was also ordered to pay £360 towards the Council’s investigation and legal costs as well as a victim surcharge of £60. The overpaid benefits are being recovered from Mrs Stevens by Cornwall Council separately from the Court action.
Cornwall Council operates a confidential fraud hotline on freephone 0800 7316125.
