Crowds of people enjoyed a royal spectacular at Truro Cathedral on Sunday when over 30 children performed a full scale re-enactment of the Coronation of HM Queen Elizabeth I.
With bright sunshine welcoming guests the event marked the exact 60th anniversary of the Queen’s original Coronation in 1953.
The original service was replicated in minute detail with stunning costumes and replica crown jewels with the young queen, Yasmyn Miller, arriving into High Cross in her own State Carriage.
Organiser Yvonne Fuller said: “We presented the Children's Coronation for the first time in St Mawes in 2002, for The Queen’s Golden Jubilee and In 2012 we repeated it for her Diamond Jubilee with a whole new generation of children. So, performing it now in the perfect setting of Truro Cathedral, is the culmination of nearly twelve years' involvement.”
She paid tribute to all the hard work that the children and volunteers had put in.
Adding: “The Coronation Ceremony is dignified and slow moving, and rehearsing with such young children was quite demanding. But in the cathedral, with the beautiful music and exciting atmosphere, they rose to the occasion and their performance really was close to absolute perfection as anyone could have wanted.”
