First Sunday all-age family communion included words and music to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II.
The gospel reading told of the Roman Centurion who recognized in Jesus a man, like himself, of authority. This gave the theme of a talk by Canon David Miller, who said that, despite her position, the Queen was a humble person who never wanted to lord it over people but sought, instead, to show love and concern and to live under the authority of God.
Canon David presided at communion, assisted by the Rev Dorothy Noakes and Betty Booker, lay reader. Stephan Gibb read the lesson and Maureen Grattan-Kane led the prayers. Michael and Heather Thorn, keyboard and flute, accompanied two worship songs and other hymns and music were played by Richard Berry, organist.
