Falmouth Town Council fully on board for 2014 Tall Ships Regatta Falmouth Town Council has long been a supporter of Tall Ships events in Falmouth and is one of the founding Official Partners of the Falmouth to Royal Greenwich Tall Ships Regatta in 2014.
The programme for the Falmouth Tall Ships Regatta, 28th to 31st August next year, is taking shape thanks to the assistance of its Official Partners and supporters. Attractions and organisations in Falmouth are being invited by Falmouth Town Council to organise their own activities throughout the town to compliment the event.
Richard Gates Falmouth Town Manager and Chairman of the Tall Ships Town Working Group explains, “Due to the success of the Olympic Torch Relay day in Falmouth, when dozens of town groups came together to create a wonderful atmosphere with great activities, we thought we would instigate something similar for Tall Ships 2014. We aim to make Falmouth come alive with activity to compliment the great sights on the water. Organisations interested in getting involved should contact the Falmouth Town Team on 01326 313553 or richard@falmouth.co.uk.”
The large A Class square rigged vessels will be berthed in The Docks and will provide an impressive backdrop to the town and its festivities. Eight of the A Class Tall Ships have already signed up equalling the spectacle of the last Tall Ships event in Falmouth in 2008, with more expected. It is anticipated that at least 30 ships in total will be part of this exciting event. Town Mayor, Councillor Geoffrey Evans says; “Falmouth Town Council are delighted that the Tall Ships are coming back to Falmouth once again having been here several times before. The town with its harbour and bay is a fantastic setting for this wonderful event which will make Falmouth an attraction for both visitors and locals to come and see this spectacular sight. I hope everyone will have a great time and will have wonderful memories of this occasion.”
Sail Training International, the race organisers behind the event, hosted their annual conference last week, where the Falmouth to Royal Greenwich Regatta 2014 was promoted to ships owners and Captains, outlining the highlights of the event in Falmouth.
“The Regatta is receiving huge interest from ships - we are currently being notified almost daily of ships signing up. The event website is constantly being updated with vessels taking part. The anticipation is building for what will be a hugely exciting Tall Ships event in August next year” comments John Hick, Falmouth Chairman of the Regatta. “We would also like to see as many young people from Falmouth and Cornwall take this fantastic opportunity to take part in the race and enjoy the celebrations also being planned in Royal Greenwich.” For the latest information about the Regatta and how to sign up to take part in Falmouth see www.falmouthtallships.co.uk, join us on Facebook ‘Tall Ships Falmouth 2014’ or follow us on Twitter @tallships_2014 #tallships
