The covenant service on Sunday was taken by the Rev Mark Liddicoat and included the welcoming of Emily Mitchell as a member of the Methodist church.

The opening hymn was, come let us use the grace divine. Lessons from Isaiah chapter 63, 1 Samuel and Matthew chapter 2 were read by Alan Darvill and Nancy Christophers. In his sermon Mark told us he was not that good looking after his car as once he let the oil go down and when he went to the garage found he was very lucky to find just enough to keep the engine going. Has the lamp of God gone out for you? The God who called Samuel is still calling us. He said to Samuel “here I am” and he’s still saying that to us today.

Prayers were said for those who govern and hold authority in the nations of the world, those in need, who suffer from sickness, grief or trouble and for all the saints who have entered God’s eternal glory.

Holy communion took place asking for forgiveness, confessing our sins to God as generations have met before us, to renew the covenant which bound them and binds us to God.

The closing hymn was, Hills of the north rejoice.” The organist was Markus Mueller. Tea and coffee was shared after the service.

The service on Sunday will be taken by Mary Mavers at 10.30am.
