Worrying about a possible major operation on his back caused a St Keverne man a lot of stress and led to his drinking too much, Truro magistrates heard.
William Dennis Harris went to Tesco at Pool to buy some drink in the early hours of the morning, and was stopped by the police in his car in the store car park, where he failed a breath test. He later tested at 86 micrograms, more than twice the legal limit.
Harris, aged 54, of Trevallack Close, St Keverne, pleaded guilty to drink driving on December 28.
He was fined £110 and ordered to pay £40 prosecution costs and surcharge and was banned from driving for 17 months.
