Parts of the newly refurbished Idle Rocks have been left under eight inches of water after waves crashed through windows yesterday morning.
Waves crashed through the windows of the ground floor, including the main restaurant, which is only separated from the sea by a terraced seating area. It left the whole of the ground floor submerged under eight inches of water. All the furniture is soaking and the carpet in the lounge will have to be taken up and replaced.
Mark Apsey, the head chef, tweeted out: "What a first day at The Idle Rocks! The sea storms crashed trough the restaurant windows at 7am this morning."
The chairman of luxury car company Aston Martin invested £2 million in refurbishing the prestigious hotel, which re-opened in July.
The hotel was set to open for the season on Friday, but this is now expected to be put back.
The hotel is currenly looking for chefs and front of house staff. Visit idlerocks.com.
