The service on Sunday was taken by Mary Mavers, who welcomed the congregation by saying: “We are here today because we need the power of God to be with us.” The opening hymn was “With gladness we worship”.
Prayers of thanksgiving were said thanking God of our lives, for His creation, for the gift of His son, Jesus and then asking for His forgiveness.
Mary read from Isaiah “Prophets Now”. Peter Mehaffey read from John chapter 2 v 1-11 “Jesus changes the water into wine”.
In Mary’s sermon she spoke about a new experience she had when she joined a group about losing weight. Being a minister’s wife for many years she found it hard not talking about God but was pleased to find a lot of fun and laughter in the group and through that meeting on church premises, some have joined in church services. That’s where Jesus would have been and He is out there in the world changing people’s lives ie changing the water to wine at the wedding in Cana. Mary then said: “Let Jesus change our lives from water into wine.”
In prayers of intercession, prayers were said telling God about His love for us and our love for Him, knowing that God is with us in every storm. When we are alone we know God’s hand is on our lives. Prayers were said for God’s church in the world, an ever changing world, a world short of vision; for those caring for others, their patience and love; those suffering and for peace for the world.
The final hymn was “Come let us sing of a wonderful love.” The organist was Markus Mueller. Jenny Lockwood will be taking the service on Sunday.
