THE number of flowering plants at Trelissick Gardens near Truro was down on last year due to a frost preceding the count on New Year's Day.
Head gardener Barry Champion counted up 125 blooms this year. He carries out the count each year as a labour of love and it is not a scientific study. But over the years the number of flowering plants has risen with many people putting the increase down to global warming.
