The Porthminster Gallery, St Ives, will be exhibiting a showcase of specially selected works by promising young artists, as part of its annual New Beginnings exhibition.
Opening on February 8, the nine recent graduates from Falmouth University have been hand-picked to exhibit their highly praised artworks.
Featuring paintings and drawings by Samuel Houston, Olivia Jones, Charlotte Keates and Ruth Naylor, prints by Izzy Adams and Miranda Robson, ceramics and sculpture by Rebekah Lockley and Felix Kary, and jewellery by Emily Goodaker.
The New Beginnings show has proven to be an exhibition highlight in the gallery’s programme of shows over the last six years.
Success stories include Mirjana Smith, also a recent graduate of Falmouth University, who was first shown by the gallery in the 2011show. Since then, Mirjana has gone on to become one of their |permanently represented artists with |inclusion in high profile shows such as her supporting collection in the gallery’s ‘Sir Peter Blake: Signed Prints’ show in August 2013, alongside the “Godfather of Pop Art” himself.
This year’s noteable names include Contemporary Crafts graduate Emily Goodaker, who has recently won a |scholarship towards a highly respected postgraduate masters in Goldsmithing, Silversmithing, Metalwork and Jewellery at the Royal College of Art.
Emily will be displaying a collection of bespoke jewellery to complement unique ceramics by Penryn-based artist Rebekah Lockley and |hand-carved wooden sculpture by Felix Kary.
The works of Samuel Houston, Olivia Jones, Charlotte Keates and Ruth Naylor will champion a variety of unique, stylised drawings|and paintings; exploring mark, technique and tone, while the works of printmakers Izzy Adams and Miranda Robson display the traditional crafts of etching, aquatint and woodblock |printing.
The exhibition will be a fantastic foresight into the futures of these young, bright artists ready to make an impression.
New Beginnings will be on view at the Porthminster Gallery at Westctott’s Quay, St Ives, from February 8 until March 1.
The gallery is open from Monday to Saturday, 11am to 5pm.
