With the rescue work of the Lizard lifeboat so much in the news recently, it was a particularly poignant visit to the station for pupils from Landewednack Primary School.
They took a tour of the station at Kilcobben Cove last Friday, to mark the national RNLI’s SOS fundraising day.
The youngsters, some of whom could well be lifeboat crewmembers themselves one day, also looked around the RNLB Rose.
The visit was described by the children as “amazing” as they were taken around the station by members of the lifeboat’s crew and shore crew. The children were given the opportunity to ask questions and even try on the famous yellow kit worn by the lifeboat crew.
Prior to their visit the children from the school and the adjoining Little Lizards Children Centre had drawn a picture of the lifeboat and their art work is now on display in the school library for all to see.
Headteacher Sue Wilson said: “We are so grateful to everyone at the lifeboat station. This is the third year running we have visited the station for SOS Day and the children always really look forward to it.
“Many of the children have close relatives involved with the lifeboat, which makes our school even prouder supporters of the RNLI – especially the Lizard station and its crew.”
