BBC Radio Cornwall is appealing for unwanted and unused Christmas gifts to sell for charity.

Present Aid for Cornwall will raise money for groups and organisations in the county. The sale, which has become an annual event, will take place in a marquee, donated by Aussie Marquees on Lemon Quay in Truro on January 8, and will be broadcast live.

In the past the event has raised thousands of pounds for Shelterbox and tsunami victims.

This year the money will go to the BBC Radio Cornwall appeal, which helps groups across the county and hands out donations twice a year.

The WRVS in Cornwall received a grant to buy thermal boxes for its meals on wheels service and the Cornwall Search and Rescue Group was given money to buy a first aid kit which will help with training.

Items for the sale should be taken to the radio station's offices at Phoenix Wharf in Truro. If anyone is able to help they are asked to ring the action desk on 01872 225522.

Presenter Laurence Reed said: "Please don't give us food or clothes, just Christmas gifts that you don't think will ever be used but will benefit others."

The Present Aid sale will take place between noon and 3pm.
