While the majority of the population were tucked away in warm houses on Boxing Day recovering from the festivities of the day before, a few hardy - or plain crazy - people from the Mullion area took a dip in the sea.
Participants in Mullion Surf Lifesaving Club's swim at Polurrian shunned wetsuits and instead donned swimsuits and even the odd sun hat - just in case the weather turned that bit too warm.
The participants, many of them holding hands in a united front - or perhaps to drag along anybody having second thoughts - launched themselves into the sea, screaming with shock at the "bracing" temperatures.
And returning shivering from the icy water, the swimmers were rewarded with towels and hot drinks.
A beach collection raised more than £150, which, together with sponsor money, will be used to continue the activities of the Mullion club.
Ian Sadler, of the club, said: "Many thanks to all those who gave money and supported us."
