Following the success of last winter's lecture series, Godolphin is hosting a new series, Godolphin Made and Remade.
This year's lecturer is John Schofield, who was born at Godolphin 65 years ago and is the leading authority on the place. John has made his life in the study of ancient buildings and in their repair. These lectures bring together 15 years of his research. He says,' Godolphin is a great house which disappeared from view for over 200 years; once it was the largest in Cornwall. People reduced it, almost forgetting its extinct family with their huge tin-wealth, their vast estates and influence. I will discover that historic house and its extensive gardens, how they were made and used.' Each lecture will look at one of the four decisive occasions when the Godolphion's re-thought the place, as they felt the need to rebrand their public image. The building of the house is the subject of John's first lecture, entitiled The Late Fifteenth Century and Before on Saturday, 13th January.
The other three lectures in the series are:- Religious Prgamatism and Stylistic Revivial (10th February), The Dynasty Refounded - Elizabethan and Jacobean Times (10th March) and Dreams and Nightmares: the Civil War Generation (14th April).
The lectures are held in the spacious, warm and comfortable King's Room at Godolphin House. Tickets cost £8.00 per lecture or £28.00 for the series. Admission price includes refreshments which will be served from 6.00pm with the lecture starting at 7.00pm. There is hard surface parking nearby and disabled access.
