Six youngsters from St Francis School in Falmouth took part in the local Rotary Club Youth Speaks competition with three of them winning a place through to the next round.
Daniel, Kye and Beau’s presentation which posed the question “tomato ketchup – healthy or harmful?” was judged to the best of the bunch, winning the youngsters the Rotary Shield and a trip to Penzance later this month when they hope to repeat their success in the next round of the competition.
A second team from the school, made up of Lily, Abigail and Mya, came third in the Falmouth heats, which saw pupils from six local primary schools competing against each other. The girls’ topic was “should we use mobile phones?”
Year five class teacher, Gwyn Gowing said: “They have all worked so hard and that is shown by them coming first and third. It will be good for them to do the whole presentation again in front of a new audience.”
If Daniel, Kye and Beau repeat their success at Penzance they will progress through to the next round of the contest which will see them performing back on home turf in Falmouth.
