The service on Sunday was the 121st anniversary service and was taken by the Rev Peter Facer.

In attendance was the Mayor of Penryn, Councillor Mrs Beverley Hulme and local dignitaries, MP Sarah Newton was also present. The service commenced by singing the hymn “God is here, as we His people meet to offer praise and prayer”. Prayers were then said about the world around us and for the power of God that is always with us through the Holy Spirit. The church was prayed for on its anniversary and also prayers for forgiveness were said.

The lesson, read by the mayor, was taken from Ezekiel chapter 37 v 15-23 and the deputy mayor, Gill Grant, read from Ephesians chapter 2 v 11-22. In his sermon Peter spoke about the town in which he was born, how there were nine churches there. It was known as the holy city. There are so many religions but we are all close together in unity and fellowship. People who follow Jesus are all together in unity and the cornerstone is Jesus Christ Himself.

Prayers were said for the world with all its greed and selfishness, for Syria, the Sudan and Afghanistan, preparing for self rule. Our own country was prayer for, those suffering in the storms, for farmers, fishermen and all the rescue services, the hungry, the homeless, all in care and nursing homes and the unwell.

The closing hymn was “Thy hand, O God, has guided.” Organist was Marcus Mueller.

Lunch was shared. The service on Sunday will be taken by Dr Euan McPhee.
