Our Sunday worship last week was led by the Rev Michael Caddick who used to be lead Chaplain at Falmouth School as we wanted to mark Educations Sunday.
He involved David Gee and Alan Offord who are both involved in schools within Cornwall. Three of our teenagers were interviewed about life at school: their favourite subjects and if there was anything they would change about the school day? One of them replied, “Detentions. I wouldn’t have them!” They also talked about the importance of getting a good education for life and their hopes for life after school.
Michael based his preach on the words Jesus used to tell His friends about the greatest commandment: Love the Lord your God and love your neighbour. He talked about the importance of passing this down to our children. He commented on less time now given over to subjects such as Religious Studies and PSE/PSHE within the school curriculum because of the pressures on time for other subjects.
He commented on the lack of children in churches today and that we need people to go to where they are, ie into schools to share the love of God with them. David Gee also shared that he takes lessons in schools from a Christian perspective which include sex and relationships, drugs and alcohol, Christianity and abortion.
Michael also led us in an informal communion service and then after the service about 50 of us stayed for a soup and pudding lunch.
Next week some of the members of the church will lead the worship on the theme: God’s creation and the great outdoors.
