A Mylor Bridge based sailor has achieved a nautical milestone by becoming one of a handful of skippers to complete 100 yacht deliveries.
Brendan Budd, 64, a skipper with delivery company PYD, left a career as a financial advisor to become a yacht delivery skipper, and has since sailed some 85,000 nautical miles from balmy summer seas to icebound winter ports.
He said: “I wanted to do something I enjoyed and could earn a bit of money from.
“Reaching 100 deliveries is just something that’s happened. It wasn’t a goal and I plan to carry on.”
He completed his RYA Yachtmasters qualification with an endorsement for commercial sailing, and now spends weeks out on the sea delivering boats all across Europe.
It’s his passion, and he has his own yacht which he has previously taken to Greece to spend summers sailing around the islands, and he says he now “goes sailing to pay for sailing.”
To commemorate his achievement Brendan was invited to the Dusseldorf boat show, Boot Dusseldorf, and presented with a 100+ PYD skipper’s jacket and a commemorative certificate listing all his deliveries.
Mark Matthews, director of PYD, said: "Brendan has said he will continue skippering yachts for PYD for the foreseeable future and we wish him continued fair winds and safe passages."
