Porthleven Town Council is to take over temporary running of Shute Lane toilets in order to reopen them during the winter months.
This was agreed with a view to considering taking full control of the toilets at the end of the summer season.
The agreement was reached by councillors last Thursday, when they voted to take up a “tenancy at will” from Cornwall Council, which should come into almost immediate effect.
It was after hearing that while Cornwall Council was prepared to open and maintain the toilets during the summer season, they would be closed during the winter months from September until March.
Councillor Andy Wallis, who sits on both councils, said: “The Shute Lane toilet is marked as ‘strategically important’ – but only in the summer and for tourism.”
Town members, however, believed the toilets were too important to close for six months of the year.
