The service was taken by Dr Euan McPhee and the call to worship was read from Psalm 27 v 4.
Birthday greetings were sung to Sandra Hockley and Margaret Dancer.
The first hymn was “O, worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness.” Prayers were said worshipping God in the beauty of holiness, for God’s consideration for all of us and knowing that we can approach Him because He is a caring God.
The first lesson from Genesis chapter 15 v 1-12 and 17-18 was read by David Kneebone. Euan read Psalm 27 from Psalm’s Now and Luke chapter 13 v 31-35. In his sermon Euan said more people live in cities than in rural areas. In his life he has lived in cities, but also had a smallholding for a while. He also had been to many cities including Israel and Jerusalem, which were very beautiful places, but now these places through wars and unrest had turned into cities of rubble.
In the prayers of intercession, led by Margaret Dancer, prayers were said thanking God for blessings we have from Him day by day; prayers for forgiveness when we sometimes forget the problems of others; for troubles in the world and for God’s presence to be in these troubled areas; Penryn Town Council and those in care and nursing homes; those unwell, those in hospital and the bereaved. The closing hymn was “City of God how broad and far.” Markus Mueller was the organist.
At the close of service tea and coffee was served by Emily and Chris. The service on Sunday will be taken by Gerald Triggs, which will include holy communion.
