President on Sunday was Dieter Friedrich and he welcomed the speaker, Simon Parker, from Exeter.
On Sunday afternoon Simon suggested that faith was needed more in times of trouble, although we have less real fear in our lives than those in troubled lands. Bible characters seem strong in faith to us and we need to channel the love of God to those around us in whatever way we are able in word and especially deed. The parable of the talents shows that we need to do something with the gifts we are given and that work will produce faith, hope and love which can be offered to all. We remember the price that was paid for us though Jesus which can elevate us to a new life striving to embody those qualities which he showed.
After sharing tea Simon introduced a bible study which he had used when doing missionary work in South Africa. After developing the introduction with his listeners Simon put us into small groups to do the multiple choice questions using bible references which created a great deal of discussion.
It was an interesting and enjoyable evening learning about the Master Plan of God from the bible.
