While most people in Cornwall were battening down the hatches during recent storms, for surfers and beach watchers, this years wild waves have thrown up some chances to capture pictures of epic waves along the coast.
Cornwall’s Ann’s Cottage surf company ran the ‘Winter Waves’ campaign which resulted in hundreds of people sharing their astonishing photographs of the Cornish coast in the midst of the recent storms.
With an emphasis on’ safety first’, the surf and lifestyle store asked their followers to take photos of the impressive waves this winter.
Spectacular images of surf, storm and sea from across the county soon came flooding in. Ann’s Cottage, who continually share similarly impressive images from around the world on their Facebook Page, were truly impressed with the reaction to their competition:
“We were overwhelmed with the way people really captured the beauty of nature. The mix of severe weather over the past couple of months has resulted in some extraordinary coastal images,’ said Ann’s Cottage owner and director, Rob Harris, who has also been a volunteer for the Coast Guard for over 40 years:
‘We have a great respect for the sea which we wanted to promote through this campaign. We encouraged people to capture the unique force of nature, but only if and when safe. Our message was taken onboard and we have some stunning images.’
The winning photograph, chosen by Ann’s Cottage, was taken by Ian Fussell from Chapel Porth, who was rewarded with a weekend break for two at luxury holiday home, Rigi, in Polzeath with breathtaking, cliff top views. Ian’s winning photo is of a huge wave rolling into the Cribbar near Newquay.
