The pupils of Mabe School are out training this week with Paul Simmons from |walkitcornwall in preparation for the ‘Walking on Sunshine” Sponsored walk on Saturday, March 29 as part of Falmouth’s Spring Festival.
The sponsored walk is only three weeks away and anyone can register and join in. It starts at 9am at the Ferry Boat on the Helford River and has joining points throughout the day. The organisers, “Friends of Mabe” aim to raise funds to contribute to their £10,000 target for solar panels for Mabe school roof.
With nearly 100 participants signed up already it’s looking like it will be an exciting event. Mabe pupils as young as five are walking between 1.5 miles and ten miles between Helford Passage and the Prince of Wales Pier, Falmouth.
Organiser Paul Simmons states: “It has inspired the local community of Falmouth and Mabe and we have businesses along the route lining up to be sponsors and checkpoints.
“The Ferryboat Inn, Life’s a Beach café, Swanpool café, Ocean Bowl, Waves Hairdressers and Fal River Information have all donated money and space for our walkers to check in, rest a while and enjoy their facilities.
“Watch out for our posters and flyers which have been printed by our sponsors, Booths in Penryn and please register to join our walk or sponsor a walker. The more the merrier! ”
If you would like to learn about the history and wildlife en-route, you can pay £10 and join the 10 mile guided walk with Paul Simmons of walkitcornwall.
