Members of the Penryn Buffs Club presented town councillors with a presentation regarding a pre-application to convert the first floor of their Tresooth Lane property to residential accommodation.

Roy Sanders told the council's planning committee that the Buffs wanted to build a set of six or eight one-person flats, which would be separate from the community area on the ground floor.

The town council were broadly supportive of the proposals, pending any full application, with Councillor Cait Hutchings saying lots of people work in the town and have to drive in, and more accommodation could reduce the need for cars and pressure on parking.

Councillor Edward Wilkes expressed an interest in whether the accommodation would be for local people, with Mr Sanders saying they could be, although he didn't rule out renting to students.

Councillor Mary May said planning regulations meant an element of affordable housing would have to be included, adding that she was “happy to work with the club in order to achieve their goals.”

It was also noted that the development would take pressure off green-field sites, although there were concerns over potential conflict between the residential accommodation and the social club.

The club were also told it was necessary to work with local residents “at all stages” to avoid any potential conflict.
