Margaret Williams is re-elected president at the AGM. Hurrah acclaimed the members, to which Margaret replied “Just one more year”. Committee members were appointed: Mesdames Debbie Herbert, Pam Seabridge and Margaret Whibley and Rosemary Goodchild.
Looking back members were full of pride for the past year’s programme. In gold medal position for a visiting speaker was Gill Keeble of Praze-an-Beeble for her Harvest Cookery demonstration. The most mind-stretching speaker was Paul Adkins, Truro acupuncturist.
In a nutshell the year was really enjoyable, varied, sometimes creative meeting and as one member remarked “overall life enhancing”.
Now it’s another year gone and another year to look forward to. Is it only numbers? Here are some numbers: WI meetings during the year totalled some 590 member-hours; the Christmas Party given to the blind and visually impaired people in the community was the 54th annual occasion; and 1928 was the foundation year – yes - Penryn WI is coming up to 85 years of age.
The next meeting, second Wednesday in the month, at the Welfare Hall, will be the Annual Art and Crafts Show. Competitive entries by members are currently being finished, whilst the cookery items, such as heavy cake and shortbread, will be baked nearer to Wednesday, March 19.
Any ladies interested in becoming new members are very welcome to join us on Show Day at 3pm for a cup of tea – further details please telephone Mrs Williams on 01326 373314.
