Members showed images from our tutorial evening on February 13; portraits of Debbie, (our model for the evening), and some unusual shots of glass paperweights, one of our table top subjects. We also saw other images. A spiral staircase gave rise to suggestions about black and white conversion and correcting converging verticals. Stepping stones across a river led to a discussion about using different shutter speeds while on location to achieve a variety of effects.
We were interested to see a series of water droplet photos and how they were taken. A circuit was set up with a laser beam sensor, so that when the water droplet broke the beam, the flash was triggered at a slight delay to capture the droplet hitting a bowl of water underneath. Surprisingly, the circuit was not expensive to buy and quite easy to set up and we are hoping to see it in action at a forthcoming tutorial evening.
We also made a presentation to our previous President, Dennis Scrace, to express our thanks for his service to the club. Dennis is a founder member of the club, which has been running for 34 years. Unfortunately, he decided to stand down because he's unable to attend the club as frequently as he'd like, but we are pleased that he will continue to visit us when he can. Our next meetings are: March 13, Marie Minchington DPAGB, a talk entitled 'My Way'. Marie describes herself as a prolific photographer of anything and everything that interests her, who has exhibited nationally and locally. March 20, annual competition with St Ives Camera Club, which will be judged by Barbara Jenkin.
Meetings take place each Thursday at 7.30pm at The Space, Penryn RFC, Kernick Road, Penryn TR10 9LF. It is a friendly and welcoming club that aims to help people improve their photography skills. If you would like further information on the club, please telephone the chairman Mark Walker on 07518 299379, visit the club website at www.penryncameraclub.org.uk or find us on Facebook.
