On yet another wild and windy night members turned out for their AGM and election of officers.

It was good to be reminded of the previous year’s programme which had included talks and activities reflecting the many interests of the members. We had started with an Antiques Roadshow, covered topics from beauty tips to cooking and gardening and finished with a hearty sing along. Now there are over a dozen members who take part in a weekly Pilates class that was especially set up as a result of one of our evening activities and the success of our Christmas Gift Fair and Charity Fashion Show has ensured that these two events are firm fixtures in our calendar.

Social Secretary, Margaret Lugg, recapped where the Merry Munchers had been for lunch and reminded us of the shows which members had been to at the Hall for Cornwall.

The competitions winners were announced: 1, Jenny Ragg; 2, Gill Druce; 3, Kay Dumont. The President’s report referred to the ways in which the WI is moving into the 21st century. In Mawnan nearly three quarters of the membership receive minutes, information and reminders by email. Jenny Ragg reminded us of the opportunities which are available to us through the Cornwall Federation of Women’s Institutes as well as nationally.

Following the meeting members participated in a team challenge in which they were invited to use their creative skills to produce a model using a variety of materials provided in a “Pandora’s box”. The winning team produced the garden of Mary, Mary Quite Contrary with An Englishman’s Home is his Castle coming a close second.

Our new programme starts with Line Dancing at 7.30pm in the Memorial Hall on Thursday, March 13. Do come along to join in the fun.
