The parish’s Women’s World Day of Prayer Service was held on Friday and was prepared by the Christian Women of Egypt with the title “Streams in the Desert”.
This is an interdenominational service and was represented by members of Flushing and Mylor Methodist Churches, the Anglican churches and a member of the Roman Catholic Church. The speaker was Susan Pearce from Edgcumbe who, in her address, compared the women of Egypt today with those in the past when Muslims and Christians respected each other’s religion and lived in harmony. “Now,” Mrs Pearce said, “Egypt is the worst country in the world for women to be living.”
The service depicted the lives of four Egyptian women, Isis, from Ancient Egypt, a rural worker, a city worker and a student. Also, it re-enacted the story of Jesus at Jacob’s well, taken from the Bible reading, John chapter 4. This service is being conducted by Christian women all over the world on this day.
Delicious refreshments were served afterward.
