On Sunday morning, the first Sunday in Lent, the minister the Rev Beverly Turner led the service; Paul Jenkin (organist), Mary Louise Combellack (flute), Paul Coombs (bongos). The Lenten Cross was presented by Peter and Stephanie Gordon with the ‘Bread and Wine’. Songs of Fellowship and Hymns & Psalms were used for the hymn singing. Prayers were said and a series of unrelated logos were shown with no manufacturer’s names to indicate ownership of the items displayed. The Sunday School children and helpers then went downstairs.
The minister read Psalm 70, also Luke chapter 4 v 1-14. Included in the sermon were references to when we attend a doctors surgery and often when asked by our friends “How are you?” our replies belie the truth, when we say ‘fine’!
Christians can at times feel down, we are not always wonderful all day every day. Jesus himself, whilst in the wilderness, was questioned by the evil one, Jesus gave answers that were true as recorded in the gospel of Luke. The service of holy communion was mainly read from the Methodist Service Book. There was no evening service but at 4pm a service was at Helston in aid of the Bible Society towards raising funds to print Chinese Bibles in China!
On Sunday morning the Rev Stephen Bales is the planned preacher. In the evening is a local church arrangement, contributions are invited towards ‘The Sermon on the Mount’.
