Talks arranged by Julie Hadwin and competitions by Janet Buckley had been fascinating and outings had included a walk in Lelant with supper at the Badger Inn, a visit to Caerhays Castle, a cinema evening in May and Christmas meal at Kota Kai. All supported the Open Gardens Day in June and Godolphin Fete in July.
Then Anne Dyke, with many of her beautiful pieces on display, gave a History of Woodturning since 1300 BC. She discussed Egyptian, Roman, Medieval and motorised lathes of the Industrial Revolution, culminating in modern electric and computerised lathes.
As well as wood turning Anne explained that pieces could be further enhanced by carving, piercing, colouring, burning or gilding, with many pieces for purchase eg an ebony and lacewood ring holder.
The competition to make shortcake biscuits was won by Ann Gray.
An open meeting with the Air Ambulance is on Thursday at 7.30pm in the Methodist schoolroom .
