Tim Light of the King Harry Ferry Company will give a talk on 'Messing About in Boats' at the AGM of Falmouth Civic Society to be held at 6pm on Tuesday, March 18 at the Athenaeum Club, in Kimberley Place.
People are welcome to join the society, but non-members are also invited to attend the talk which will start at 6.30pm after the meeting. There is no entry fee, but Tim would appreciate donations in aid of the Pearl of Africa charity.
At the society’s latest tea and talk, members heard about “Falmouth’s Little Known Georgian Gem” - Grove Hill House, which when built by a member of the Fox family, was in the country.
Professor Mike Jenks has done extensive research on the house and illustrated his talk with maps, plans and early photographs of the Fox family in residence. The grounds of the house were extensive and the gardens, although unlike the Fox’s, contained botanical gems.
The house, although now converted into seven apartments, has retained beautiful architectural features and thanks to a lucky chance in the 1960s, a “hideous” extension, for which planning permission had been granted, never went ahead.
