A pupil at Penryn Juniors has won a competition to design a logo for the school as it moves towards primary academy status.
Jack Lawry won £50 for his design, which incorporates the town’s landmark town hall clock-tower and the viaduct as well as the flag of St Piran, and uses the colour red which is associated with the town.
Four other pupils were also shortlisted for the prize, along with member of staff, and each was presented with a £10 prize.
Robin Cowen, head teacher at the school, said: “One of the reasons it was chosen as the winning design is that it’s very strong, with its shapes and angles.
“The new logo also used a lot of the important landmarks in Penryn.”
He added: “It’s not without its controversies, there is strong feeling about the importance of the Saracen’s head, so the school website will have the old design alongside the new to reinforce the importance of the past.”
The new logo is part of the school’s transition into Penryn Primary Academy, along with Penryn Infants School, and will replace the two schools’ individual badges.
The schools also held a vote for the colour of the new school uniform, with 67% of people choosing to stick with the traditional red colour.
