Firefighters were called to the maternity wing at Royal Cornwall Hospital in the early hours of this morning after a report people could smell burning.
Crews from Truro responded just before 3am to the alarm at a ward in the Princess Alexandra Maternity wing.
A fire service spokesman said that on arrival crews found there had been a small fire in an air handling unit.
Crews used a thermal imaging camera to confirm the fire was out and carried out an inspection only.
