Schools across Helston and the Lizard Peninsula have celebrating reading by dressing up for World Book Day.
World Book Day was marked with pupils at primary schools across the area dressing up as their favourite book characters.
St Michael’s School held events all week, ending on Friday with youngsters dressing up in costume.
They had already held a book fair, a “drop everything and read” session where parents came in to read with their children, and the parent teacher association invested money into boosting the classroom libraries.
The five schools of the Keskowethyans Multi Academy Trust – Coverack, Grade Ruan, Manaccan, St Keverne and St Martin – celebrated in a number of ways.
Some brought in their favourite book and dressed up as their favourite character, while others held a bedtime story, complete with pyjamas and sleeping bags. There was even a competition to find the most unusual place to read, held by one school.
Wendy Prescott, assistant headteacher for the trust, said: “World Book Day is a much looked forward to event in the academy’s calendar and a wonderful opportunity to highlight the importance and pleasure of reading. A huge amount of fun was had by everyone.”
