After the singing of Jerusalem the president, Grace Bradford, welcomed members and Nan Collier, the county advisor, to the annual meeting held in the Methodist Hall from 2-4pm.
The secretary gave her annual report outlining all the activities enjoyed from talks, visits to Trelawny Garden Centre as well as cheese and wine, craft, floral and cookery demonstrations and the Enys Group social evening. She thanked everyone for playing their part in making Falmouth WI so successful.
The treasurer gave her annual financial statement stating the year had been very busy with many changes. She thanked all who had helped her during the year. The secretary and treasurer were both thanked for their reports, which were well received.
The president thanked the committee and members who worked so harmoniously together when the WI Hall was sold. She also remembered past presidents and members, who through their dedication the WI recently reached its 96th birthday.
Nan Collier then gave an enlightened account of the history of the WI and the reasons it was founded - to give women the opportunity to meet together, to learn new skills, to gain friendship in a democratic way, to gain equality and remove barriers which women once faced. She wished members a successful year and concluded her talk by stating “this was the first annual meeting she had attended when there was a health and well being report on an Aspidistra, which was now at a new home and doing very well.” This caused much laughter.
She then supervised the ballot for the presidency and Grace Bradford was re-elected. She thanked Nan for conducting the ballot and for coming to Falmouth for the afternoon.
At the conclusion of the meeting, everyone enjoyed the traditional cup of tea and biscuit.
