On Sunday morning our worship was led by one of the local preachers who leads worship around the local Methodist Chapels, Margaret Smith.
Her focus was upon the call to follow God wherever He calls us. She used the story of Abram, who became Abraham, called by God at the age of 75 to a new life (Genesis chapter 12 v 1-4a). She asked the question of herself in preparation and also the congregation, “What don’t I want to hear in this passage?” She outlined a few things, namely being called to change and pastures new when we might want a rest for a while; being called at 75 when that may be a time to think of taking life easier and being led into the unknown, which can bring fear and insecurity.
The message was a challenge to us as God’s people as we seek to respond to God’s call on our lives in the 21st century and the challenges that brings. The worship also included the song, “Put peace into each other’s hands” and prayers for those around the world in need and people known to us who are sick. We also used the prayers from the prayer tree written by people who drop into the Memorial Chapel during the week.
We closed the service with the hymn, “Lord, your love has kept and guided,” as a reminder that we do not journey alone: that God is with us and He guides us as He did Abraham.
Next week we share our morning worship with our friends at URC/Trinity Baptist at 10.30am led by the Rev Colin Biggs
