Owing to the temporary closure of the first floor the decision was made to hold The Lizard and Mounts Bay Methodist Circuit Service for The Bible Society’ in the Epworth Hall. This was the original chapel, over 120 years ago.
The Rev Daniel Reed, the superintendent minister of The Lizard & Mounts Bay Circuit, welcomed the large congregation and thanked everyone for their support of the Bible Society. All 22 churches were asked to contribute either by organising various events, such as coffee mornings, cream teas, sponsored Bible readings, etc, or simply by making a donation.
Paul Langford from Lanner, a representative of The Bible Society, gave an enlightening talk on the desperate need for the Bible to be printed in the Chinese language. Many families in China are fortunate if they have one Bible per family. In some cases, a Bible may be torn and the pages distributed among a number of Christians so that everyone can, at least, read a part of it! The ministerial staff of the Circuit, supported by members of the Circuit Leadership Team took part, during which donations and monies raised for The Bible Society were brought forward and blessed. The total sum being sent to The Bible Society is £2055. This will provide enough paper to print 2,500 Bibles. During the service Andrew Besley was accepted as a fully accredited Local Preacher. He was then presented with a copy of The Methodist Worship Book, by the Superintendent Minister.
Joan Williams was the pianist for the service; Ben Reed operated the power point.
At the conclusion of the service, tea was enjoyed by all in the Wesley Hall. A big ‘Thank you’ to all those who took part.
