A micro-brewery based in Penryn has been presented with two CAMRA Kernow awards after just a year’s brewing at their site on Kernick industrial estate.

The company’s Mexi-Cocoa chocolate beer won the Supreme Champion Cornish Ale award and the Best in Class award for a specialty beer from the Cornwall branch of CAMRA following judging at the last Falmouth Beer Festival.

Guillermo Alvarez, the brewery’s managing director who created Mexi-Cocoa, using organic chocolate made on-site, said: “I’m very happy that the beer has got the recognition it deserves.

“We moved into this building a year ago and had some growing pains, and it shows just how much improvement has gone into our products to win competitions on a stage with some of the best brewers in the country.

“This will get us into the national competitions. And it’s not just Mexi-Cocoa which is fantastic; hopefully this will get awareness of the whole brand out there.”

Gerry Wills, Camra Kernow vice-chairman and organiser of the Falmouth Beer Festival, said: “It’s an excellent achievement by the brewery to have won such prestigious awards so early in their relatively short history as a brewery.

Things can only get better, I’m sure they will achieve many more awards in the future.”
