The organisers of the Porthleven Food Festival have revealed that there will be two new performance areas for musicians at this year’s event.
For the 2014 festival, which takes place on April 26, there will be a chance to get away from the crowds and enjoy performances at the Parish Church of St Bartholomew, including classical performances, a harpist, an acapella trio, folk music and choirs.
The port’s iconic clock tower will become the other new venue, with performances including an 18-piece swing band, a junk band, samba bands, dance workshops and an authentic fairground organ.
Andy Morse, the festival’s music and entertainment organiser, said: “The music and entertainment at this year’s festival has grown to feature around 40 different acts. Following the theme of ‘Local Food, Global Stage’ artists who take their inspiration from Celtic, flamenco, afro-Cuban, Brazilian, Caribbean, bluegrass and Appalachian, gypsy, East European, South African, Maori, and oriental styles have been invited to perform at the event.
“They will play side-by-side with the usual popular blend of local and |home-grown indie, folk, country, rock and jazz. We have choirs, bands, solos, duos, trios and groups who can’t be contained performing all around the town, over the whole weekend.”
The range of music on the two main stages will start with the Porthleven Town Band, on the Lime Kiln Stage, reggae from Kernow Vibration, afro-Cuban and samba from Vamonos, local favourites Flats and Sharps and Earth Connection, and the world-rhythms band whose last Cornwall tour took the county by storm: Duncan Disorderly and the Scallywags.
Louella and the Gambit will be in our new up-and-coming slot. On the Salt Cellar Stage look out for David Harbottle and Freya Jonas, Shindig Cloggers and Samba Celtica who are back by popular demand, the highly-talented and |recently formed The Wrong Side of the River Band, the spellbinding The Tides, Lily and Meg, William the Conqueror, and the day is wound up by The Mighty Bucca Dhu.
As well as the 40 different acts performing on the main festival Saturday not to be missed is the ticket only Friday night fundraiser party featuring Jools Holland’s favourite Boogie Woogie Pianist Ben Waters and local band Keiko Rise organised and sponsored by party people The Masked Ball, and on Sunday the 27th look forward to another full day of live music, food and local beers in the |Main Marquee organised and sponsored by The Blue Anchor.
