METHODIST CHURCH: For the third Sunday in Lent, John Harris did the appropriate reading and laid the bag of money, representing the 30 pieces of silver at the Lenten Cross.
A warm welcome was given to the preacher, Anne Moyle, who was standing in for her husband, Franklin, who was unwell, Good wishes were extended to him for a speedy recovery. Anne had chosen all the hymns from Mission Praise and these reflected on her talk throughout. A couple of her quotes were “Look at the bigness of your God and His ability and He will take you step by step” and “Salvation is free and eternal life is a gift” giving lots of thoughts to digest. Organist was Mavis Harper.
PRIMARY SCHOOL: The PTA has purchased two new benches for the playground. Head teacher, Lucy Wandless, extended thanks to all the pupils and parents for their support at the Sports Relief event, which raised £68.87. Unfortunately, due to the weather, all activity took place in the school hall, but there was a fun and energetic time dancing for Sports Relief for 45 minutes!
Also this week three boys from Year 6, Austin, Joel and Luis will be swimming a mile to raise more money for Sports Relief and if you would like to sponsor them please contact the school office. The winners for the January 100 Club were Miss Bradbury, Mrs Jubb and Mrs D Jones; February Mrs Searle, Mrs L Jones and Mrs Old; March Mrs Buckley, Mr Jones and Mrs Luke. There are some numbers available and if you would like to take part pop into the school office.
Finally some cross country news – After six races the Helston and Lizard Primary Schools cross-country league came to a climax with some pleasing results from the Godolphin team. They have finished as this year’s league runners-up, only being beaten by Parc Eglos School. They have comfortably retained the Weighted Points Trophy from 2013, which is awarded according to the number of pupils on role in KS2. The Year 3-4 girls team were winners of this particular age category overall. This year an incredible 45 Godolphin pupils in KS2 have taken part in at least one race.
Twenty-eight pupils completed enough races to earn themselves an endurance medal (for pupils who finish at least five of the six league races). These medals are given out in recognition of their commitment and dedication.
Twenty pupils in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 ran in at least one of the two Key Stage 1 races held alongside the league. Fifteen runners from Years 4-6 were recently selected to represent Helston in the Sports Partnership Cross-Country Finals. There were some excellent positions all round with Catherine Groves winning her race. She now goes on to compete in the Cornwall County Finals.
A huge thank you is extended to all the parents, family and friends who have helped at these races and supported their children.
