Are you Cornwall's Mary Berry? Truro church to host big charity 'Bake Off'

The bake off will start at 10am on April 9, and those looking to enter their best bake will need to register between 10.30 and 11.30am, with judging at noon.

Organisers are asking, "Do you have a secret recipe that is a family legacy, handed down through the years? Maybe your recipe is just a firm family favourite or perhaps you fancy yourself as the next Mary Berry or Paul Hollywood – whatever your reason, the Charity Bake Off is open to all."

For those that prefer tasting to baking, then for just £2, guests can enjoy a cup of tea and a cake. 

Leave a Gift to Cornwall is a group of fifteen member charities set up to promote legacy giving in Cornwall.

Representatives from each member charity will be present at the Charity Bake Off to answer any questions and provide information on volunteering and other ways of giving.

Hayley Dann from Wild Futures, the charity that runs the Cornish Monkey Sanctuary, said: “The Charity Bake Off is going to be a great event and fits well with the annual Truro Festival. We are looking for cooks and bakers to enter from anywhere across the county – amateur or professional – young and old. There will be a special trophy for the winner as well as some other spectacular prizes!”

Sarah Snell from the Merlin MS Centre, Cornwall, said: “As well as being an appetizing activity for the Easter holidays, the Charity Bake Off is a fantastic event to celebrate the amazing mix of charities we have in our county. The Leave a Gift to Cornwall charities combined provide services for thousands of beneficiaries across our county every year, from patients suffering with a terminal illness, to those struggling to get employment; from people who need rescuing, to animals in need – every one of the charity members contributes to life in Cornwall in some way.”
