CROWAN CHURCH: The bells rang to welcome the congregation to the 11am service taken by the Rev Sharon Chalcroft on Sunday. The music was played by Colin and readers were Gill and Shelia. Prayers of intersession were read by Lyn. The Sunday school children designed Mother’s Day cards which they will enter in the competition at the Mini Bazaar, then they joined the congregation for the blessing.
A Book of Remembrance is kept at Crowan church and if you would like to have loved ones remembered on their anniversaries please write their names clearly in the book, which is kept at the back of the church. They will then be included on the prayer sheet and prayed for during the intercessions. The Silence at Six service welcomes everyone to come along to this contemplative service held every week at Crowan Church. Last Wednesday’s Craft and Chatter group went well and the group are now working towards the next collection for the “fish and chip” babies. They are making hats, jumpers, teddy bears and cot blankets. If anyone would like any patterns please see Sarah. The charity also needs soft toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap and underwear for babies and young children and there will be a collection box at the back of church for donations. Members meet again on Wednesday, April 9 at 7pm in the Parish Room.
Thanks were sent to Wendy and Amanda for their gift of the book, Simply Christian by Tom Wright, and if anyone would like to read this book over Lent, please see Amanda or Wendy. After Easter an informal tea party is planned to get together and exchange thoughts and opinions of the book.
This year the church is fundraising to support research into Parkinson’s Disease. The next delicious Lenten soup lunch will be held on Friday at the Parish Rooms between noon and 1.30pm. Everyone is very welcome to enjoy a tasty lunch and support this worthy cause.
On Saturday the Mini Bazaar will be held at the Praze Institute. There will be stalls selling plants, cakes, gifts for Mother’s Day and bric-a-brac, a tombola and a raffle. There is a competition for a Mother’s Day card that is open to adults and children - the cards will be judged at 10am.
PRAZE FAIR SHOW 2014: The show was successfully launched at the annual President’s Evening dinner on March 22 at The Old Shire Inn, Camborne and over 80 members of the Show Society, supporters and friends were welcomed by Chairman William Faull. He thanked all those whose hard work had contributed to the success of the 2013 Show in July on a day blessed with excellent weather. He proposed a toast to 2014.
Retiring President Alan Cock handed over the President’s silver salver to Mary Willoughby, the 2014 President, with good wishes for her year. Mary will be very busy combining the presidency with her role chairing the Tent Section Committee, of which she can be sure of good support on the day. In the 206 year history of the show the only other female President is Lady Mary Holborrow who covered the 200th Anniversary in 2008. Whilst Mary Willoughby is untitled, clear from your mind the suggestion of being common included in her acceptance speech. Be assured of her show pedigree from her lifetime commitment to Praze Fair Show.
Melville Morse and Mark Tregenza who have worked hard towards the success of the show over many years were made life members.
