President on Sunday was Geoff Harry who welcomed visitors from Spalding and Birmingham’s Acocks Green.
Speaker in the afternoon was Brian Jones who talked about preparation. He had prepared his thoughts for the meeting and suggested we harness the thoughts we have today to see us through the week ahead. Brian pointed to the preparation made throughout the Bible by people such as David preparing for the temple construction and preparation of hospitality for others. The last supper was a feast of preparation and Jesus and the disciples prepared for it as we prepared to remember the salvation brought by Jesus in the communion service.
After sharing tea the evening speaker was Bob Muxlow who looked at the Bible definition of sin and death. He began with God’s requirements from Exodus to Revelation. Jesus pointed out that the main needs were for us to try to lead godly lives and love others before ourselves. Everyone sins in differing degrees and Jesus gave us a prayer asking God to lead us not into temptation and to deliver us from evil. The book of Ecclesiastes said that the living know that they will die, but the dead know not anything. We live in a lenient society with many opportunities to stray. Bob said that Jesus was the way, the truth and the light and it’s never too late to let Jesus into our lives and find forgiveness and life in Him.
