Three services instead of the usual two were held at the chapel on Sunday. Morning worship was led by Pastor Bill Reed, who took the congregation through the story of the woman at the well of Sychar, with the various implications the experience of meeting Jesus had for her, some of which affect Christians today when they meet the Lord. Anne Bond read the lesson and the organist was David Philp.
At 4pm saw the launch of a new project “Room with a View” – a different type of service for adults and children. It is envisaged that Room with a View will take place monthly on the third Sunday. This month’s theme for the adult discussion group was the recent storms and the possible reasons behind them: the children meanwhile acted as fishermen, throwing their nets out of the “boat” and decorating the “fish” which they had caught. At the end of the session, adults and children came together for tea.
Room with a View is designed to appeal to anyone who perhaps does not feel that they fit comfortably into the formal worship patterns of the church, but would like to discuss faith issues, and it is hoped that residents and visitors alike will feel free to take advantage of this new facility.
Evening worship was led by the Superintendent Minister, the Rev Danny Reed, who talked about the encounter between the apostle Philip and the Ethiopian eunuch on the road between Jerusalem and Gaza. Philip had been obedient to God’s call; he had spoken to the other man; he had been unafraid to tell him about Jesus and he had finally taken the action of baptizing him. The congregation were urged similarly to obey God’s call; to talk about Jesus to people they meet, and to be active in Christian service. Paul Brown was pianist.
