Porthleven Harbour will be transformed into a lido this Saturday, whatever the weather.
With the water still cleared of boats following the storms, the community is coming together from 2pm to celebrate the repairs to the harbour defences with swimming and lilo races, plus a mini triathlon for teams of four.
There will be prizes for the best swim hat and most knobbly knee, a veteran’s leap and the reinstatement of the old sculling competition – propelling a dinghy or punt to a bigger boat using one vertical paddle while standing up.
Out of the water there will be music, entertainment and stalls to raise further funds for the harbour.
Richard Smith, a local police sergeant and member of Porthleven Coastguard, who had the idea for Lido Day, said: “The village hasn’t felt right without the boats. It’s been very melancholy since the storms. This is a way of reclaiming the harbour at the heart of the village, and having fun too.”
