Fingerprints on a bottle led police to a 17-year-old burglar who stole booze after raiding the Magpies Football Club in Penzance last year Truro magistrates heard.

At the time of the crime Kyle Race-Brook was 17. Now a year older and before the adult court, Race-Brook, of Trevella Crescent, Gwavas Estate, Newlyn, pleaded guilty at Truro Magistrates’ Court to burglary at the club last year.

He stole drinks worth £500, and also to doing criminal damage at the YMCA in Penzance on March 5 this year.

Alison May, for the CPS, said entry had been made to the club through a window. All the cctv cameras had been smashed or removed, a coin box on the pool table had been forced, a fridge door pulled off and bottles of spirits removed from optics. Damage amounted to £450.

At the YMCA defendant had been living there as a resident, and had caused damage worth £120 by kicking doors and a panel heater on a wall.

Charles Hulley, solicitor for Race-Brook, said he had had an argument with a support worker at the hostel and took out his frustration on the property.

The burglary had been committed when he was a youth and he had told the police afterwards he had been with two others who he declined to name, and it had been a spur of the moment thing.

Race-Brook was told to attend an attendance centre for 36 hours and pay £100 compensation and £60 victim surcharge.
