The service on Mothering Sunday was taken by Peter Cocks. The service commenced by singing “To the name of our salvation.”
Prayers were said thanking God for His love for us, for His creation that we see around us, for the mothers who gave us life and that they showed us the way to Him.
The lesson was read by Peter from John chapter 9 and he took his sermon on this chapter being “Jesus heals a man born blind.” He said “what a transformation happened to the blind man after he washed his eyes in the clay that Jesus spat on. It took place on the Sabbath and mixing that clay was classed as working and that was wrong. It was against the rules and the Pharisees investigated the healing.”
Prayers of intercession were then said praying that we can bring everything in prayer to the God of love. Prayers were also said for the troubled parts of the world and that peace will return to them and that they may know that God is always with them. The hungry, the homeless, those in care homes, hospitals and the bereaved were then prayed for.
Flowers were given to each lady in the congregation by Kerenza. The closing hymn was “Walk in the light.” The organist was Markus Mueller. Tea and coffee was served by Jo and Rose.
The service on Sunday will be taken by the Rev Celia Phillips.
