The Highways Agency will carry out a £2.75 million scheme to resurface the carriageway on the A30 between Loggans Moor and Hayle starting on January 14.
The work, which includes renewing safety barriers and installing new drainage channels, will take place on a two-and-a-half mile stretch of road in both directions, and is due to be completed by Easter this year.
During the work, lane restrictions will be in force with some night-time road closures. Diversions will be clearly signed via the B3301 through Hayle.
Highways Agency project manager, Lynton Cocks, said: "These improvements will provide a smoother road surface for drivers and increase safety for the public."
A temporary 40mph speed limit will be in place throughout the work and will be enforced with the use of average speed cameras. These measure the average speed of vehicles through the whole of the works instead of a single fixed camera point. This is the first time average speed cameras are to be used in Cornwall. It is expected that this type of safety camera will encourage better compliance with speed limits through the roadworks than fixed site cameras thus contributing to improved safety for road works and drivers The road closures will take place each day between 7pm and 7am from Sunday, 14 January, to Wednesday, 17 January, and between Tuesday, 6 February, and Sunday, 11 March.
