HELSTON u12 5 LUDGVAN u12 1
Helston returned after the Christmas break and continued their push towards automatic promotion.
In blustery conditions, Helston took their time to get the ball down and under control but once they started using the width of the pitch the goals began to flow.
Ryan Williams was first off the mark as he stretched to reach a Brad Curtis cross from the left and deflected the ball into the corner.
Minutes later a Jakub Chambers through ball saw Ryan Williams get in behind the defence before he was upended in the box. Captain Jakub Chambers confidently fired the ball past the 'keeper to make it 2-0.
Ludgvan never gave up and continued to battle across the pitch in a vain attempt to get back into the game. A couple of changes just before half time saw Brad Curtis move up front and he latched on to a loose ball in the area to score a rare league goal.
Then just before the break Matt Best got on the score sheet for his first league goal of the season as he hit a low drive from outside the area, under the sprawling 'keeper's body.
In the second half, Helston failed to maintain the first half tempo from and with the wind behind them, Ludgvan battled even harder and disrupted the Helston passing.
Helston managed several breaks but nothing materialised.
As the game progressed, they had to be thankful to the rear guard of Tyler Morgan, Pete Crowther, Jase Williams and Ryan Bosustow, who held firm under some intense pressure from the away side.
Eventually, a defensive lapse allowed Ludgvan one opportunity too many and they grabbed a goal back.
Straight after Jase Williams had to leave the field with a worrying back strain.
More reorganisation tightened the midfield and a counter attack saw the ball go out for a corner. A quick corner from the right was whipped in and only partially cleared before Jakub Chambers sealed the win with a 10-yard shot.
Not Helston's best performance but another good win that keeps them sixpoints clear at the top of the league.
