BODMIN 5pts HELSTON 19pts
HELSTON overcame a stubborn Bodmin side to run out 19 points to five winners in the Skinner's Brewery Cornwall Junior Cup quarter final.
Despite the camel hike up county and the withdrawal of several key players, Helston still fielded a strong side to field.
Utility player Guy Pallett found himself at scrum half and Matt Jenkin returned to his former position of hooker.
Although Helston started with the wind, conditions proved tricky and it was not until half way through the first half that Pallett broke clear of the defence. His telling inside pass to flanker Ivon Lawson saw the club stalwart crash over for an unconverted try.
Another driving Pallett surge from the base of the scrum resulted in the first of two tries for the Helston scrum half. Fly half Steve Trethowan duly slotted the conversion to make the half time score 12-0 to the visitors.
Early in the second half a good back line move saw Bodmin winger Ian O'Reilly cross out wide for an unconverted try.
However, by now, the Helston eight were dominating the set pieces and another surge up field saw Pallett score his second try for which Trethowan was able to add the extra points to make the final score 19-5 to the visitors.
Helston are now hoping for a home draw in the semi finals.
